Howard Residence

Preserving the Cape was the primary concern for this small addition. Capes, or Cape Cods as they are called, have modest scale, frequently only 1 1/2 stories high. Many are distinguished by steeply pitched dormered roofs.

This addition includes a renovation of an existing 2nd floor bedroom. The small bedroom was expanded out over an existing side yard family room and converted into a master suite. A new hall bath was added witin the new front dormer. The rear screen porch has multi-levels with storage below and a walk-out roof terrace above. The language of dormers, roof overhangs, brackets and projecting pediments is intended to recall and enliven the Cape roof form.
