Klontz Residence

This residence fronts onto Glencarlyn Park within Four Mile Run. The property sits at the top of a ridge overlooking the lush parkland and Four Mile Falls below. The existing greenhouse addition, seen in the before photo, was an early attempt to take better advantage of the unique setting. Ultimately, the greenhouse proved to be unsatisfactory. It was too remote from the main living level and lacked heat and cooling control. The new design attempts to capture the unique natural beauty of the park. The addition is raised up to the main living level. New work includes a side mud entry, powder room, and a rear dining room, kitchen & deck. As a concept the new work is conceived as a "tree house" , suspended out over the hill. The insulated glass curtainwall dematerializes the addition to blur the line between inside and out.
