This addition doubled the size of the original center-hall Cape. The new ground floor kitchen/family addition is designed as an "open plan" area. The existing Living room is also open to the family room, but, when desired, the two spaces can be separated with bi-parting glass pocket doors. The ground floor layout seamlessly connects all new and existing spaces together with a pin-wheel circulation loop which is particularly appealing when socializing with family & friends, both in small and large groups.

The rear elevation is manipulated for scale and interest. The broad roof overhang above the kitchen bay windows offers both necessary sun shading and helps engage the house with the deck. The Jerkinhead roof, above the upper master gable and bay, helps to draw the roofline downward to reduce scale. The hip, bay and lower family room windows all align vertically to create an interesting local symetry.
